ExpanDrive for Windows v2.0.9

Jeff Mancuso July 8th, 2011

Some important fixes for users whose text editors had been complaining of a file changed when it wasn’t – also a bunch of browsing and caching improvements that should really help speed up a few cases that have slowed down in our 2.0 release.

I was really happy to see S3 and FTP support in new version. I bought it instantly, installed it and after 2 minutes came back to previous version. I am using SFTP drive with Netbeans and it works noticeably slower, even with 2.0.9 version. Did you perform any speed tests after releasing v2? I would be very happy to use new version, but SFTP performance is unacceptable.

Hi Lukasz, exactly me thoughts as well. I’ve been using ExpanDrive 1.84 for SFTP mounting for more than half a year and was extremely happy with it – fast, did was it was supposed to do, stable, reliable, small profile.

The new version is ORDERS of magnitude slower (mounting a 20 Gig TrueCrypt File on a Remote Server 4 secs (1.8.4) vs. 19 secs (2.0.9) on the same machine/connection), is now a blownup 20 MB-file vs. the old 2 MB install. Even changing the directory sometimes takes several seconds.

I don’t know what happened with v2, but from aside from S3-support (which I haven’t tried so far) this is as much a failure release as it can get. I’m glad that I did NOT immediately upgrade my v1-license to v2. Already back to 1.8.4…. :-(

We’re 100% committed to this guys – some things have definitely slowed down but the majority of feedback is very positive. Sorry for the regressions. If you haven’t already [and even if you have], could you ping support@expandrive.com with any additional details you have and we’ll work through it with you and get this back to where you need it – and hopefully much better than 1.8

  • Curious Person

I’m wondering if anyone thought things were going worse with Version 2 and now they are better? I personally am not very knowledgeable about how Expandrive or SFTP works so I wouldn’t know if Version 1.8 or Version 2 is better. I immediately assumed and felt like Version 2 was and is faster and better because of confirmation bias, haha. It definitely is more sleek at the very least. Though I do wish you could make the drive manager window smaller (width and length), but that’s not a big deal.

Cheers and great job on Expandrive and Strongspace, I love both products.

    Thanks Curious :)

Some things have regressed and for people who rely on them, the regressions are unacceptable and we’re fixing them. By in large, nearly all feedback has been very positive. If anyone has complaints, we’re doing our best to respond to them immediately via support@expandrive.com

Hi Guys, a month as passed. Are there any updates (like a v2.1.0+) for the mentioned SFTP issued scheduled or planned? Best regards, Benjamin

Huh?! OK, I’ll try it… I’ve been checking this blog every other day waiting for an announcement of this sort.

  • http://benjaminjurke.net Benjamin Jurke

Just tried… and now I’m really getting a bit annoyed: TrueCrypt now report “The supplied user buffer is not valid for the requested operation.”

    What the….?!?!?!

Can you email support@expandrive.com with that info?

Just opened a Thread in the ExpanDrive support forum.

While I would love switching over to v2 I had to downgrade to v1.8.4 again It’s not the speed that made me think something is completely broken in v2 but the fact it corrupts all my files when copying them over from an Unix Server (Ubuntu 10.04) to Win7 x64 using SFTP.

In v1.8.4 I never experienced such an issue while v2 is nothing but disappointing :(

  • Anonymous

Not good – please email support [again] if you haven’t already. We’re unaware of any issue that could cause corruption.

  • Michael Pfister

This issue seems to be fixed in v 2.1.5 so I was finally able switching over to ExpanDrive 2.

  • Gravitalsun

setting for custom permissions on new files is disappeared. tree view of saved connections is disappeared. and finally the worst; sftp is so slow (at least at windows), a simple benchmark with the well known free utility will be very revealing for your engineers. you have to do something, fast …
