Making DIY iPhone Stevenotes with ScreenSplitr
January 23rd, 2009Back when Veency brought the insanely useful VNC to the iPhone, Erica Sadun lamented over at TUAW that the connection wasn’t quite smooth enough or fast enough for a do-it-yourself Stevenote presentation. While being able to remotely read text messages, and type on iPhone through a regular keyboard were awesome features, Erica’s right—using your phone as a remote presentation tool.
Now, for you would-be Steve Jobses the wait may finally be over. The recently released ScreenSplitr app allows you to remotely display your iPhone screen on your computer screen, and it does so with a decent amount of crispness. It’s not instantaneously quick, but it’s definitely useable. I’ve ginned up (as Jeff would say) a little screencast to give you an idea:
While the Safari-based interface doesn’t carry over sound, an experimental mode does allow you to (kind of) control your phone from your Mac through Safari. I had mixed results with this feature, and would stick to Veency and ChickenOfTheVNC to for controlling an iPhone from your mac.
ScreenSplitr is available through Cydia from the BigBoss repository, and yes, for now that means jailbroken phones only. Sure, you could just use the Keynote app, but this solution lets you work anything your iPhone can display into your presentation.
